JS SEZ – Key Zones

Updated in October 2024

The JS SEZ – Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone will span across six local authorities in Iskandar Malaysia and Pengerang, covering an area over 3,500 square kilometers. The zone aims to boost bilateral economic cooperation between Malaysia and Singapore, focusing on industries like logistics, finance, tourism, and manufacturing.

  1. Zone A – Johor Bahru City Centre: Development of a financial district, central business area, and waterfront city.
  2. Zone B – Nusajaya: Home to state administrative centers, Medini Iskandar, and educational hubs.
  3. Zone C – Western Gate Development: Focuses on the Port of Tanjung Pelepas and free trade zones.
  4. Zone D – Eastern Gate Development: Development around Pasir Gudang Port, technology parks, and distribution centers.
  5. Zone E – Senai-Skudai: Features Senai International Airport, cargo hubs, and a technology cluster.
  6. Pengerang: Known for its energy and petrochemical industries, positioned as a major energy hub.

The Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) will focus on sectors such as logistics, financial services, tourism, food security, education, healthcare, digital economy, energy, and manufacturing. Although a deal between Malaysia and Singapore was anticipated for September, it has been delayed as final details and incentives are being worked out. The initiative, first announced in October 2023 during Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s Singapore visit, is expected to foster bilateral growth and economic cooperation.
